Achieving the Perfect Bikini Body
No matter what time of year it is, it’s never too early or too late to think about how to get a bikini body. Whether summer is right around the corner or half a year away, right now is the best time to work on your bikini body so you have plenty to show off the next time you hit the beach or pool.
By their very nature, bikinis are the most exposing of all swimsuits. While other types of swimwear might allow you to hide or disguise certain parts of your body you would rather not expose to public scrutiny, when you are wearing a bikini, there is no place to hide.
That’s why there is no time to lose when it comes to working on your perfect bikini body. Because everything (or, at least, nearly everything) is in plain sight for the whole world to see, you need to have the confidence that you look your best in order to pull off your bikini body – from bottom to top.
What is the perfect bikini body?
Getting into shape so that you can show off your perfect bikini body requires a head to toe assessment of your current physical condition. Bikinis are unforgiving when it comes to visibility. Only the very naughtiest parts of your body are covered up. Everything else is up for grabs. So the first step to achieving your perfect bikini body is conducting a top to bottom inventory.
1. Calves & Thighs
Let’s start at the bottom with your calves and thighs. Every woman knows that the easiest way to accentuate the shape of your legs is to wear high heels. The problem is that there aren’t a lot of beach footwear choices that have any sort of heel on them. So when it comes to looking your best in a bikini, having slim, toned legs is essential. Some women carry excess fat on their thighs, so a general weight loss and fitness programme should be combined with regular slimming leg exercise involving resistance training or weight machines in order to tone the definition and shape of your leg muscles.
2. Buttocks
Moving upwards, our next stop on our physical inventory takes us to one of your best assets: your butt. Depending on the cut of your bikini, your butt can be swathed in fabric or essentially completely bare save the slim thread of fabric on a thong bikini. In either case, to look your best your butt needs to be not only fat- and cellulite-free, but tight and firm. The butt is usually the first or second thing that most men look at when admiring a woman in a bikini (depending on whether they are a breast or bum man), so paying extra amount of attention to how your backside looks is vitally important to having the perfect bikini body. To get your bum in bikini shape, consider adding lunges and squats to your regular exercise routine.
3. Love Handles
The next stop is your love handles. Your bikini should accentuate your slim form and grace, not advertise your “muffin tops”. If you tend to carry your weight around the middle or on your hips, the bottom half of a two-piece bikini will tend to push this excess fat up and out. While this can usually be easily camouflaged when you are wearing a one-piece bikini, the bikini offers little room for error. If you have any type of love handles, they are going to be glaringly obvious while you are wearing your bikini, so now might be a good time to work on shedding your excess weight and burning off the fat reserves that are causing your love handles to appear.
4. Torso
Moving up your torso, the perfect bikini body’s abs should be slim and tight, but not necessarily overly developed. Let’s face facts: While washboard abs are sexy on a man, they usually seem distracting and out of place on a woman. Unless you are competitive female bodybuilder, the look you are going for with your perfect bikini body is a belly that is slim, flat and tight enough to bounce a coin off of it. Dieting and shedding excess fat will help accentuate your lovely flat belly. You can supplement this with Pilates or other workout that focus on your abs without overbuilding their muscle size.
5. Chest
Next let’s examine your chest. The size of most women’s breasts will vary over time based on a number of different factors: If you are pregnant, if you are currently over- or underweight, your age, gravity, and if you have had any, ahem, enhancements performed. While many men will tell you that when it comes to breasts, the bigger the better, the truth is that to look your best in a bikini, your chest should be proportional to the rest of your body. If you are too top-heavy, it will distract people from appreciating the rest of you (“Hey, eyes up here!”). If you are too small up top, it can make other parts of your body (a/k/a, your butt) look bigger. The biggest problem with bikinis and boobs is that bikini tops typically don’t usually provide the same kind of support that a brassiere can. While some modern bras can essentially perform miracles when it comes to the way your breasts appear, the bikini top can be heartless.
6. Your Smile
Finally, we reach the end of our inventory and the most important part of your perfect bikini body: Your smile. Appearing confident and relaxed can go a long way toward “selling” your bikini body. A woman who has the perfect body but who looks insecure is much less attractive than a woman whose body has perhaps a few flaws, but who has a bright, confident smile and who appears comfortable in her own skin … in this case, quite literally! You have to have a certain amount of self-confidence to wear a bikini in public in the first place. Like the lyrics from the old musical, “Gypsy”, state: “If you got it, flaunt it!”
